Basically, it is neighbors helping neighbors fix stuff!
A repair cafe teaches people to see their possessions in a new light. It can demonstrate how fun and easy repairing things can be.
At our repair cafe, a team of volunteers from the community use their knowledge and skills to help others.
You'll get valuable practical knowledge. Your things will last longer and stay out of the landfill.
It turns out Repair Cafe is so much more because it addresses loneliness and social isolation. See this video from Wisconsin State Department of Human Services on the value to individuals and communities:
Volunteers sign up for their area of expertise they'd like to volunteer for. We have areas for sewing/mending, furniture repair, tech help, knife sharpening, electrical repairs, and providing refreshments.
Volunteers bring any necessary tools that they may need. We ask that the volunteers show up 15-30 minutes before the doors open to the public so there is ample time for setup.
Community members bring broken items or come to the repair cafe to simply enjoy coffee and a light lunch and visit with others. All are welcome.
What to expect
Have something that needs fixing? Bring it in and our volunteers will do their best to help. If they are unable to fix it, they likely know where to refer you to get it fixed.
Don't have anything to fix? Come anyway and enjoy coffee, snacks, and community.
